Heart Burn
February is known as the month of the heart. It is known for Valentine's Day. A day of expressing love and loving thoughts to those we care deeply about. We sometimes use the expression of a "burning heart" to express emotions of love. Sometimes we use the expression "Heart Burn" to express a feeling of stress or overindulgence in spicy foods. But for a moment let us consider the Bible's view of "Heart Burn."
Our hearts sometimes can be cold or vailed and fearful and we cannot see the object of our love. Let us look at two disciples who had vailed love removed in a magnificant way. In Luke 24:32 Luke relates an incident you may be familiar with. Jesus has just been crucified, buried and now recently risen. His followers were Heart Broken and dispersed out of fear of retaliation as believers. Two disciples were on their way home to a little town called Emmaus when a miraculous event took place to give them "Heart Burn" of the best kind. Luke states "They asked themselves, (after Jesus had appeared on the road home with them and walked and talked with them about the events in Jerusalem and broken bread with them in their home,) "Were not our heart's burning within us while he talked with us on the road and opened the Scriptures to us?" This was their expression denoting a deep interest and pleasure which they had felt in their discourse with him before they knew who he was. They now recalled his teaching, they remembered how his words reached their hearts as he spoke to them: how he convinced them that the Messiah had to suffer, and how, while he talked to them of the Christ, they had so much loved Jesus, their "Heart's Burned" with intense love. This feeling is not confined to them alone. All the followers of Jesus know how precious and tender are the word's of the Savior, and how the heart glows with love as theythink or hear of his life, sufferings, and deathfor all of them. This was the tenderest of "Heart Burn" that every believer and follower of Jesus has when we think of him or read his word. If we love someone should we not want to keep our "Hearts Burning" within us constantly? There is only two ways to do it. One way is by reading his word daily out of the Bible. The second is to pray with out ceasing. Maybe just one more way to keep our "Hearts Burning" within us and that is to walk daily with him in the light of His truth. He is the Way, The Truth, and the Life of true "Heart Burn." May your "Heart Burn" with love for Jesus today, tomorrow, and forever.
