Who's Got My Remote!?!
(Parts of this devotional came to me via email I don't remember by whom)
Some of us are news junkies, so if you hand us a TV remote, we're a happy camper. We can flip the news channels back and forth to our hearts content, and we hang on to that bit of power we hold so thightly in our hand! Now not everyone in my family has the same internsity of interest in the news and weather, as I do, which makes for an interesting struggle of that precious remote, sometimes I win, sometimes I lose.
On this particular day, I lost. I was in the livingroom watching the news and weather, no one else was there, the grandkids were in the back room playing, I thought, and I could watch the news uninterrupted!! It was almost like being in heaven to have a minute to sit and actually watch news in my quite moments and then, I went to answer the phone in another room.
I took care of the phone business and returned to the livingroom, only to find, to my GREAT dismay, that the grandkids had come in, taken over the remote, and CARTOONS were now on the screen! From CARTOONS we moved to SPONGE BOB, I was delighted, of course---:)----grrrroan!
Now I was polite, you see, sat and watched cartoons without saying a word, but come-on! I had lost control of that treasured remote. I spent the rest of that hour in a bit of quiet frrustration, but THAT'S where this devotional began, so read on for a word from DR. B. Oh, by the way, when we all, at one time or another, lose the remote somewhere in our homes, we NEED a devotional thought to get through the trauma of it all, until that precious remote is found once again. Just ask Amy, my wife.
How we love to control our own lives, who we are, what we do, where we go. We hold onto the remote, willful in our own ways, deliberate in our own designs, and down right afraid to let go. We flip the channels of life, fun, family, friends, studies and much more. We like being in control, what power, what INCREDIBLE power! And then beyond the realm of whatever's happening on that screen, we hear deep within, a still, small voice,"Hand ME the remote! Let ME control your life, from MY throne and within your heart." What power, what AWESOME power! The remote slips out of our hands and into HIS. We are HIS to command, as long as HE holds the remote!
Who's got the remote for YOUR life? Think about it.
Look up and read again the story of the Rich Young Ruler in Luke 18:18-27 and read about the King of the Remote!
If you are struggling with the remote for your life you might want to pray this prayer right now: "Lord, I like holding the remote, but it is not working. Somewhere, deep within my soul, I hear Your call, "Hand ME the remote" and I do, Lord, I really do. Take m life, my being, and my all. Be King and Lord of my life, fully and completely, from this day on, and Lord, when I try to take BACK the remote, remind me that I am YOURS to command, and that's the safest place to ever be and that a thought from DR. B.. See you in worship Sunday.
